Change Healthcare Cyberattack

Government officials are demanding that UnitedHealth Group take additional steps to prevent destabilizing reimbursement complications following the high profile cyberattack on its subsidiary, Change Healthcare.

As physicians work through these challenges, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Becerra and Labor Department Acting Secretary Su issued a letter to health care leaders emphasizing the impact that the attack on the nation’s largest medical claims processor has had on payments to physicians, hospitals and others.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will consider applications for Advance Payments for Part B suppliers experiencing claims disruptions and applications for accelerated payments for Medicare Part A providers. A CMS fact sheet and FAQ contains information on eligibility requirements, terms, and payment amounts.

The cyberattack coincides with the 2023 MIPS data submission window, which opened on January 2 and was originally scheduled to close April 1. CMS is now extending the 2023 MIPS data submission deadline until April 15.
