AED NEARBY iPhone app

AED Nearby app is an iPhone app that will help you find the closest AED. The concept is great and hopefully it will save a life. My main concern would be that the public would spend more time downloading the app then trying to find the AED and taking other steps before doing the basics. Call for help (911)/AED, start CPR.

Also, in our efforts to verify known and unknown AED locations, we have collaborated with a volunteer organization The Extraordinaries (www.beextra.org) to get iPhone users to locate AEDs. You can also view some of the AEDs that were located by iPhone users at http://www.firstaidcorps.org. Remember to follow our org “First Aid Corps” in that app to get access to our missions.

This is a great idea for an app — but perhaps it could be even better if the developers added a screen containing the information you suggested: the basics that should be done while an AED is located.

You suggesting of calling 911 first is a good one. I would not count on a phone app to provide me with the best information in an emergency. Sometimes its better to stay put and let rescue find you than to try to get yourself to ER.
